Professional Experience

Prior to coaching I was successful in a number of roles from senior management positions in broadcasting, telecommunications and training services through to business owner, radio announcer and actor. My experience in a number of careers and operational roles enables me to relate well to the wide range of workplace challenges presented in the coaching environment. Having owned, managed then sold a successful telecoms content business I am also familiar with challenges facing small business owners.

Coachability – Case Study

This involves a successful executive working in a senior marketing role at a Professional Services firm. At our first session the executive expressed dissatisfaction due mainly to a perceived lack of appreciation and respect from the Partners. Prior to the coaching intervention the executive had reached the point of looking for other roles including ones outside professional services. The executive was convinced the solution to the situation was to gain a job in sports marketing because sport had always been a personal passion. This desire for a sports marketing role was so strong that it needed to be addressed specifically before moving on to other issues. The actions we arrived at through the early sessions were all around discovering and testing opportunities in sports marketing. The executive’s homework consisted of contacting sports organisations to discuss possible roles and suitability. Throughout the sessions it was apparent that one great value of the coaching for the executive was as a confidential sounding board for day-to-day issues and we always made time for the executive to unload. This also opened up opportunities for me to ask questions that might lead to an altered perception of the negatives being experienced as it was more practical to change one’s own approach rather than alter the attitudes of the Partners.  By the end of the coaching program the Coachgee had concluded that the sports marketing role was not as suitable as originally envisaged. The executive also began putting into practice new approaches discussed and agreed during our sessions and reported a more positive reaction from the Partners. By the end of the coaching the the executive was experiencing much greater job saitisfaction.

Coachability – Client Testimonial

"We provide specialist services nationally and internationally to clients in the private, corporate, government and legal sectors. In recent years our business has grown quite dramatically resulting in an increase in professional staff to meet market needs. Our changed economics and some internal and external communication difficulties have resulted in performance problems with some key staff members and increased stress on management. We decided to seek external help to try and solve these issues. Coachability was highly recommended to us and when approached by us Sam Galea suggested a group coaching session to create a safe opportunity for staff to jointly arrive at their own solutions. The session was held over half a day. All key staff participated and I was very pleased with the positive interaction and the "ownership" of individual action points. The exercise has positively altered attitudes and habits within this organisation and improved overall productivity.
